2018 should be an interesting year, full of changes and new beginnings…
Posts for the month of January – 2018
Well Happy New Year!
Not sure where 2017 went, but here we are, standing at the start of another trip around the sun. I’ve never been much for resolutions and have found that if someone’s a lying jerk at 11:59 pm, not a whole lot is going to change in the next two minutes. Whatever your goals are for the new year, I wish you well in achieving them.

WOW! It’s February already. Shortest month of the year, but likely the coldest month of the year as well. Should be plenty of time to spend in the shop. There are a gazillion projects running through my head, but unfortunately, I can’t decide on which one(s) to get to first. Here are the offerings for February, 2018:

In like a lion, out like a lamb and all that stuff… There won’t be many projects this month because of everything else going on, I’ll be spending quite a bit of shop time roughing out bowl blanks, and a couple of the projects I have in mind will take a very long time to complete. Here are the offerings for this month:
Posts for the month of April, 2018:
Spring has decided this year not to show up. I think it went on strike, at least in the glorious state of Illinois. That decision has brought snow after Easter (multiple times), confused geese who don’t know what direction to fly, flowers that were stupid enough to peek their heads out of the ground too early, no place to buy a new pair of gloves or a warm hat because the swim suits took over the shelf space, cars still crusted over with the salt residue from the roads, potholes EVERYWHERE, and every outdoor beer garden in town still wrapped in plastic. Hasn’t been much time to be in the shop, but here are the offerings for the month of April, 2018.

May… Starts with the Russians parading around all their military gear and finishes with me ending a 35+ year career. Neither one are particularly happy events. Here are the threrapy offerings for the month of May, 2018:

June starts my first month of being an unemployed slacker! After 35 years and 9 months of working at least 40 hours a week for a company that really couldn’t care less about their employees, I’ve decided to take a little time for myself. Hopefully, that will include some time with the kids, time with the grandkids, and time in front of the lathe!

DAMN it’s hot out there! The month just started and the heat index has been over 100 degrees. Didn’t think it was supposed to get that hot until the end of July. Kinda puts a damper on working on projects in the garage, when suddenly you have to worry about the impact of sweat dripping into the epoxy or onto the finish.
Here’s the offerings for a hot and sultry July, 2018:
Posts for the month of August, 2018:
Yesterday, I swear to god and all thing holy that it was March. Where did the summer go??? Haven’t spent a whole lot of time in the shop, so this could be a lean month for completed projects. The main reason is I put a few pieces for sale in a local gallery and actually sold some of them. Everyone tells me that’s a good thing, but it’s really messing with my head. Instead of just making stuff for the fun of it, now there’s this little niggling voice in my head that whispers, “yeah, but will is sell?” I hate that voice!

Summer is supposed to be ending, but we’re still having 80+ degree days, very high humidity, and the kind of stickiness that usually comes with the dog days of August. Looks like cool evenings, changing leaves, and that morning crispness that comes with fall is still a few weeks away.
I sincerely doubt there will be any projects completed for the month of September, and most likely the month of October as well. Life has thrown a major curveball and all my time will be focused elsewhere. There will be no tools, no shop, and no shop-time. If all goes well, I’ll be able to resume turning in November or December.

little if any turning this month, since the shop has been dismantled, partially sold, And packed away. Still, with the use of s good frirnd’s shop, I was able to do a little turning. Here’s to hoping to be “reset” by Christmas.
