Bottle Opener

This summer, my kids were all over and we were cooking hot dogs over  a fire, laughing, and having a beer or two.  Warm summer nights really don’t get any better than that!  The kids noticed pretty quickly that I didn’t have  a bottle opener, so to get the tops off the bottles, I was using something that was really designed for opening paint cans.

For Christmas this year, my oldest must have remembered and bought me a bottle opener so I could make one before the spring hot dog roast season officially opens.  I found a piece of Canary wood that I had bought about 5 years ago, but had never found a good use for it.  It was a pretty easy project to make, the only thing difficult was tapping the hole at the top so the hardware could screw into the wood.  Note to self, need to start looking for a cheap tap and die set…

Here’s the final project:

I put a rare earth magnet in the handle, so it can hang on the front of the fridge.
